Marina At A Glance
Situated on northernmost part of the city at the water’s edge lies the Marina District, an energetic neighborhood centered around Chestnut Street and the athletic opportunities surrounding the waterfront on the expansive Crissy Field and the Marina Green. A path extends from the yacht club to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge providing a dramatic backdrop for an exhilarating workout. The demographics have changed drastically since the 80’s when it was comprised mostly of middle-class families and pensioners. Today, young professionals comprise more than half of the population. Chestnut Street is rife with ballet barre, pilates and fitness studios, baby stores, eyelash lounges, golden retrievers, restaurants, bars and bakeries. Union Street a few blocks up adds another layer to the assortment. Buildings date back to the 1930s and an art deco influence prevails. Access the Golden Gate Bridge from Marina Boulevard and you could be in Marin in 10 minutes!
